A letter from the founder

Xiaoshi Liang (she/her)

Asian American Children’s Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in May 2021. The purpose of this non-profit organization is to provide a fun place for children to explore their identities and promote a sense of belonging and cultural pride while also nurturing their passion for giving back to the community through early childhood education, language learning, social and cultural activities.

With the rise in anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes in the U.S. in recent years, it is more important than ever to build a strong and supportive Asian American community, promote an inclusive culture, and have the younger generation explore, value, and be proud of their heritage. Therefore, I decided to found the Asian American Children’s Center (A2C2).

With A2C2, I hope to leverage different resources to build a strong community and promote the Asian culture among children with Asian and non-Asian heritage. Fluency in a second language and understanding another culture are invaluable lifetime gifts for children. I have been a dedicated Chinese language and art teacher for my own son and other children. I will volunteer in teaching children Chinese language, art, cuisine, and cultural activities and leverage other volunteers of all ages to enrich the activities at the center. At the same time, I hope to  promote a volunteering culture and sense of responsibility among children and young adults.

A2C2 welcomes everyone who aspires with our Mission to become a member, regardless of their race, color, religion, and political beliefs. The success of this non-profit organization is highly dependent on donations and volunteers. Ideally, qualified persons with a passion for teaching children, promoting Asian culture, and building a flourish inclusive community will be recruited as volunteers, who will volunteer their time to offer small group classes to the children. Personally, I have been volunteering my time to provide lessons on Asian language and art to children.

All classes and activities are organized in small groups and an interactive fashion with maximum 6 students at a time. Children will be grouped based on their language levels, and volunteers will be matched to meet the students’ needs. Parents’ participation is warmly welcomed. As the young participants grow up, they will become the new bilingual volunteers and teach younger kids, giving back to the community. Please reach out to us if you are interest in participating or volunteering in the Center’s activities.

The variety of activities will be expanded as other volunteers are recruited or teachers are hired. I hope to offer group classes and activities in language and culture learning, art, Kung Fu, cooking, gardening, and organize cultural activities free of charge, expecting support from other volunteers. If the right volunteers for certain topics/contents cannot be found, appropriate teachers (paid by hours) will be hired and the cost of teaching and class materials will be shared and charged for each student.
