Promoting Chess in Our Community

Chess is a game of sport, art and science. Kids can benefit from Chess significantly for their learning and character development. Palo Alto High School (Paly) student Austin Mei would like to introduce the game of chess to you and help you to improve.

Austin started his chess journey at the age of 10 when he enrolled in an after-school chess class at his elementary school. Ever since Austin has been very passionate about the game and worked hard to become a better player. He achieved USCF National Master title at the age of 15 and FIDE Master title at the age of 16. Austin has won many trophies in the National Scholastic Championships. Currently he is one of the top ranked players in his age group nation wide.

Austin has been an active Chess leader and volunteer. He was the president of his middle school chess club, and currently is the president of the Paly Chess Club. Austin is a Club Tournament Director and has volunteered for chess tournaments hosted by the prestigious Mechanic’s Institute. Austin also leads Palo Alto Chess Club which hosts fun chess lessons, plays and activities at local library for the kids in the community.

Outside of school and chess, Austin enjoys competing in math, geography & history, producing digital art work, star gazing and playing VR games, MGT & Rubiks. As a volunteer at Asian American Children’s Center, Austin hopes to share his passion in chess with kids of all backgrounds and help them to learn and improve.
